Top 10 Video Games of All Time
Wikipedia states that a “video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device.” We here at the Manly Men Men blog think Wikipedia is full of crap, and believe that “a video game is the reason most men live. If it wasn’t for video games, we would have to spend time thinking about the real world and go into a deep, deep depression.”
Below is our Top 10 List of Best Video Games of All Time. Disagree? Share your comments or provide us with YOUR list of Top 10 Best Video Games of All Time. Happy New Year!!! Here we go!
# 1 Super Mario Bros. – Need we say more? This 2D platformer helped revitalize the videogame industry in the post Atari era. Super Mario Bros. captivated millions of players immersing them in over 30 level of inspired 2D 8-bit frames. This classic is still as addictive and enjoyable as it was when you first blew on the cartridge over 20 years ago!
# 2 Mike Tyson’s Punch Out – So he raped a girl and bit a fellow opponents ear off, but at one point in his life, Mike Tyson was the greatest boxer in the world. This is hands down the best boxing game of all-time, and it’s no wonder the Nintendo WII will be releasing a re-make of this game for their console. All of your favourites will be back in action: Glass Joe, Piston Honda, Soda Popinski and Mr. Sandman.
# 3 Contra – Up-up-down-down-lef-right-left-right-b-a-select-start… Many people don’t know that Contra was originally release first in arcades, but then again, who really cares? This side scrolling shooter was a game played at best when two players used co-op tactics. It was iconic. Player one grabbed the spread gun, player two grabbed the laser, and we all used the above mentioned code to receive 30 lives. And, when you run out of men– just steal one of your partners lives!
# 4 Pac Man – To say this game isn’t one of best of all time, means you don’t know what makes a great video game. What makes this game a classic is that anyone can play it from the get-go; even the most un-coordinated senior citizens. The premise is to navigate a maze as a yellow blob with a mouth by the name of Pac Man, and trying to eat the pellets that are scattered across the maze. At the same time, you must avoid disaster in running into one of four ghouly ghosts. The increasing gameplay speed as you advance to different levels is what makes the game so addictive and difficult.
# 5 Grand Theft Auto III – How can you not include a game in the Top 10 that allows you to steal a car, beat up a pedestrian, run down the police and blow shit up – all within a span of five minutes? Enough said!
# 6 NHL 94 – Yes, the new PS3/XBOX360 NHL series are superior of the 94 classic, however what makes this game worthy of Top 10 status is the fact that is was the first game to support four players at once. It also introduced one-timers to hockey games. It revolutionized the hockey video game industry.
# 7 Day of the Tentacle – The sequel to Maniac Mansion (which is also a classic), Day of the Tentacle is an adventure game that sees three different characters run into different problems in three different time periods: the present, 200 years in the past, and 200 years in the future. The goal of the game is to stop the mad plans of a purple tentacle who wants to take over the world. A pure classic.
# 8 Tetris – Creator Alexey Pajitnov is credited for this addictive video came which came out of the Soviet Union. Unleashed in 1985, the name of the game was simplicity. Rules are simple: stack a series of falling tetris blocks in a well in an attempt to keep the well from filling up by clearing solid horizontal lines. Although hundreds of gaming geeks have tried to re-invent the wheel, nothing compares to the Nintendo classic.
# 9 The Legend of Zelda – This masterpiece helped pave the way for puzzle-like adventure games. Think Super Mario Bros. with strategy involved.
#10 Doom – Now this was a coin-toss, as Wolfenstein 3-D really paved the way for first-person shooters; however, Doom was the total package. The innovative (for its time) sound effects, gruesome weapons and dark atmosphere really provided the gamer with a full blown lifelike gaming experience. The game was chalk full of dozens of levels and a full arsenal of weaponry. Best of all was the Death matches via LAN, which undoubtedly opened up the doors for the next generation of gaming.

Good list! Its nice to see one that’s not so arbitrary as the usual “1. Ocarina of Time, 2. Half life 2, 3. Mario 64 …. etc).
Also, NHL 94 was a great game! Being from the UK me and my friends didn’t know too much about the sport before playing it, but still had a blast!
Glad to see you agree! We’re currently compiling a “Top 10 Sports Games of All Time” list in the coming days. Keep checking back for more updates!

Now I would a figured you would have Max Payne in that list, forsure?w
Max Payne is a remarkable shooter; however, we believe that Doom (or Wolfenstein) paved the way. Max Payne is an amazing game, but GTA brought the genre to a whole different level. This is where Max Payne lacked. You weren’t able to actually walk around the whole environment and drive cars, etc. You were limited to where you could walk and weapons you could pick up. It lagged behind GTA enough that we didn’t include it on the list.
I think every one who has heard of the word video game has at least heard of mario. Mario is such a classic game but truly never gets old.
